Lorenzo - Adopted!

This has been a very special day. We are inspired by this little dog and this sparkling miracle.  Let us tell you a beautiful story:

Lorenzo survived a year on the streets all alone. Fed by many, loved by none. As he begged for food and hunted for water, he was suddenly and horribly attacked by a large and very mean dog.  Kind witnesses rushed him to a veterinary clinic where a wonderful vet took Lorenzo’s case like he was a paying customer.

Lorenzo had been ripped open, shoulder to shoulder. He had to be sewn back together…. twice.  He sat in a kennel at the kind doc’s office for weeks.

Then he came to us.  He was wary of everything and had more staples across his back than we could count. He was still pretty skinny and of course he needed to be neutered.

As the months rolled on, he became a happy trooper with a huge new family. Some nights he slept in the warm shelter with his friends, some nights he slept in the human bed in the house with other friends and sometimes he would sleep on his favorite fancy chair with blankets in the living room. He had to try all of these amazing new options and the choice was always his.

Then a very special person came along. Lorenzo immediately trusted him and wanted to be near him so we knew it was a win.

Lorenzo never gave up.  And (of course!) they all lived happily after.

This boy has been through it, but his body and spirit cannot be broken. Little Lorenzo is a 3 year old, 10 pound chihuahua, who miraculously survived a pitbull attack. Lorenzo was living alone on the streets of Porterville for over a year, and nobody took him in until he was basically almost ripped in half.

Then, finally, somebody took him to a wonderful veterinarian who repaired him, not once but twice, out of the kindness of his heart. The whole clinic fell in love with Lorenzo. His flesh was so damaged that the first repair didn’t stick so they had to go in again with more staples and more stitches.

Even his journey to Little Trooper Ranch was arduous. A wonderful generous pilot named Olaf offered to fly Lorenzo up for us. But while they were en route, huge storms rolled in and Olaf had to change course to find an airport where he could land while we were driving around trying to find them. Finally we were able to rendezvous, and everyone was safe.

He was a bit shy and a little broken with so many staples which have now been removed. His beautiful brown hair is growing back and he’s starting to love life. His favorite thing is to run into the house at full speed after playing outside. It seems that the novelty of a warm house has not worn off just yet. He beams with joy every time.

Lorenzo is a pleasure to have around; he likes to chase mice in the shed when we feed the farm animals, and he gets along well with the dogs and humans at little Trooper Ranch. He is ready to be your soulmate.
