Before You Adopt

Adopting a new pet is an exciting and lifelong commitment. Everything we do at Little Trooper Ranch prepares our pets for a successful adoption and a healthy, happy relationship for you and your new family member. Please understand that our guidelines and requirements are based on industry standards and are written in the best interests of our animals.

Adoption Guidelines

  • Our applications are found here and can be completed online.
  • Some of the responses (such as landlord permission) may require documents as proof. Please don’t take this personally!
  • We ask for adoption fees from our adopters. Fees are collected at the time of adoption.
Dogs/Puppies under 1 year of age Starting at $400
Dogs between 1 year and 8 years of age $300
Senior dogs (those over 8 years) $200
  • In rare instances, such as sponsorships by our donors, some fees may be reduced. Those savings are passed along to the adopter, assuming that the adopter otherwise qualifies for that pet.

  • Our adoption fees cover some of our expenses in getting our dogs ready for their forever homes. Here’s how that works out:
Your Adoption Fee Includes:
Spay/Neuter Surgery $175-$250
Health Exam $50-$100
Vaccinations puppy and/or adult boosters $25-$50
Heartworm Testing $45-$50

** Our foster families and adoption counselors are all volunteers. Their time and efforts spent with our animals is invaluable in socialization, and in providing information to you about your new pet.

  • All adoption fees collected assist in the daily care and ongoing needs of our animals.

  • In some cases, we may allow you to take a dog home before they have been spayed or neutered. We expect that you will cooperate with us to complete the surgery as soon as it can be scheduled. We may ask for a refundable deposit to help ensure that this gets completed.

  • Our rescue operation is very small and entirely staffed by volunteers. We welcome the opportunity to schedule visits with you, especially if you are interested in adoption or volunteering with us (as a foster, at events, or onsite). Our time is precious to us in caring for our animals. Please do your absolute best to honor the scheduled visit time, and try to limit the length of your visit.

  • The health of our dogs is of utmost importance to us. All known previous medical findings are disclosed to potential adopters. We suggest scheduling an appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible after adoption, to start a relationship between your new dog and your vet.  All of our dogs are adopted ‘as is’ and all future veterinary care is the responsibility of the adopter.

  • Please understand that all adoptions are first-come-first-served for qualified adopters, and that we are unable to hold dogs for potential adopters.

  • We only adopt animals to families who live within 200 miles of Little Trooper Ranch.

The Adoption Process

  1. After reviewing these guidelines, view our available pets online. If you find an animal you are interested in, please complete the online adoption form and we will contact you after it has been reviewed.
  2. Next, if it appears that you and the pet are a good match “on paper” you will be invited to our facility to meet your prospective match.
  3. Our team members will assist with the meet-and-greet, and if they determine that the match is a good one, they will finalize the process with you. If you have other pets at your home, you may be asked to bring them to see how everyone gets along.
  4. Please be patient. We receive many applications and it takes time to evaluate them thoroughly.

Adoption Return Policy

If for any reason your adoption doesn’t work out as planned, we ask that you return your pet to Little Trooper Ranch. We understand these are hard decisions and we welcome the opportunity to find a different home for your pet if it is not a perfect match for you.
