Billie - Adopted! Billie has graduated from LTR and is officially off to begin the rest of his life. His path took him from unspeakable cruelty to a home where he will be valued and loved for the rest of his life. We live for these miracles and we are grateful to be part of his journey but we are very sad to see him go. His legs and heart will heal. Today we focus on the adventures he will have, the love he will receive and the miracles that brought him to Little Trooper Ranch. We love you with all of our hearts Billie. p.s. Our deepest thanks to all of our supporters who donated the necessry thousands of dollars to fund Billie's surgery. You all are AWESOME!

Puma - Adopted! Grab your beverage of choice; this one is worth reading. Puma’s story is awesome. It took a turn for best when he was picked up by animal control for the *second* time, and locked away in a shelter. (Stick with us...) The first time, his people picked him up but the second time they said he was too old (now) so they didn’t want him back. Next he stayed in a metal cell with no view of anything but metal. For a month. THEN one day a couple of LTR volunteers were picking up another senior dog and the shelter staff mentioned Puma, so he came to LTR a day before his “time was up”. Puma served a prison sentence in solitary confinement for being too old. Now he lives in a gorgeous country estate with a view of hills and vineyards for miles. He has horse and cat friends and some really great humans to shower him with love for the rest of his days. His family chooses to remain anonymously awesome but they love Puma and that’s all that matters. (And so do we btw...) * * * We rescued Puma recently from his month-long stay at the Martinez shelter, thanks to their wonderful staff who brought him to our attention. At 12 years old, his family did not want him back after he was wandering the streets alone, more likely dumped. He does not stray from his foster mom and loves to sleep in the warm house. Puma prefers to be the only dog and does have a bit of food guarding tendencies but he is an older gentleman so he’s more bark than bite in these scenarios. He’s good with cats and has lots of energy for walks and adventure, so long as it’s with his person or people. Puma is precious and we are cleaning his teeth so he will be ready for kisses! He’s around 15 pounds of love.

Guinness - Adopted! Sometimes a very special home comes along for a special needs trooper. Guinness understandably is terrified to be separated from his people. He doesn’t know if they will ever return, so it’s best to stay with them, but life normally doesn’t work like that in this world unfortunately. Fortunately for Guinness a special thing happened, and he is with very special people who will never leave his side. We are so happy for this little miracle. * * * Guinness is 12 pounds of forgiveness. He could not see when he arrived at the Martinez shelter and he had colonies of fleas living under years of matted hair (check out that last pic of him). His first two years of life have been nothing but torment. He is loving and snuggly and as far as we can tell, housebroken. He gets along well with all dogs and humans, not sure about kids and cats but he doesn’t have prey drive with other animals. He just wants a home, a lap, a life worth living.

Sally - Adopted! Sally (the sweetest dog this author has ever met) has her dream home with a mother and sun and two other dogs. She has a lap to sit on as often as she likes , and a loving family! We’re so happy for Sally. * * * She is a love monkey. Sally is the teeniest sweetest little muffin you will ever meet. She’s a bit love starved and food starved but we’re working on both. This little angel was in a scary shelter until we snatched her up. She’s barely 5 pounds and barely a year old. She loves everyone and everything. She’s athletic and cute and we’ve never heard her bark. She needs a warm home with a lot of love. No small kids, cats are probably fine, she loves other dogs and all humans. We love her and you will too. If you would like to adopt Sally, please first review our " Before You Adopt " page and then complete the Adoption Application which can be found here .

Irish Spring - Adopted! It’s official! It’s confirmed! Irish has a home , finally! He flew under the radar for some reason but it was worth the wait for this adorable little puppy. He is finally home. We love you Irish! ☘️ * * * This boy is everything. Irish Spring is athletic, cuddly, he speaks with an Irish accent and comes with his own brand of lucky charm. He will be small in stature (less than 8 pounds) and big in spirit. He loves other dogs and all of the humans. He was surrendered with his sister to a crowded Bakersfield shelter but his luck got him transferred to us. If you’re looking for a cuddly best friend, and a little bit of luck, Irish is your man.

Bean - Adopted!! It is with the absolute greatest pleasure to tell you about Bean’s new life! This tough little dog has gone from broken to blessed in 3 short months. Magic can happen when dedicated people come together with a common goal, to save lives. It’s icing on the vegan cake when folks like this join in on the miraculous fun. Bean has won the lottery of life and we are honored to have be en part of her journey. She has the best dog people and dog siblings. We love you Bean! * * * If you like miracles and adventure, we have the dog for you. This gorgeous brownish reddish root-beer-ish young girl is looking for someone with energy and enthusiasm for life. She loves to quietly snuggle and chill at home but she’s first in line for a hike in nature. We're told that Bean is around 3 years old. She's great with other dogs and would prefer to have some doggy siblings. Bean came to us broken, (her pelvis and her spirit) but she has never been anything but sweet, to everyone. We’re not sure about kids and cats but we sure do know she is amazing.

Hufflepuff Sometimes soulmates find each other and when it happens, it’s beautiful. Our founder Odessa tried not to adopt Hufflepuff but fate intervened. Hufflepuff still will not let any other person touch her because she was never held as a puppy, then bonded to the first person who showed her love. It worked out since Odessa has always wanted a dog/bat/gargoyle creature. The perfect match.

Gene - Adopted! We are over the moon once again for another little senior gentleman. We love the oldies here at LTR and Gene is one of our finest examples of vintage dog. He’s everything. Sweet, soft, expressive, enthusiastic, loving and most of all forgiving. No matter what happened in his life before us, he is happy as can be and he’s really happy to finally have his forever home. He even has a couple of cat siblings if you can believe that. Don’t tell his poker buddies, he even hangs out with the cats. We love you Gene! * * * This precious senior boy has seen the world and he’s ready to settle down in a warm cozy forever home. Gene is in great health for his age and has a lot of love to give. He’s adorable, funny and full of life. He arrived with his brother Paul; they were bonded, but things changed after getting settled at LTR. Paul bonded with his foster mom, and Gene became independent and preferred to hang out with the other dogs. Because of this, we feel it’s best for both of these handsome gentlemen to be separated so they can get on with their loving futures. Gene likes to be the center of attention but he’s also pretty low maintenance. His foster home loves him, he seems to get along well with new dogs and new people! He is 8 pounds, approx 12 years and is housebroken so long as he can get outside often.

Dewy - Adopted! It was worth the wait for our teeniest most popular trooper. He was the runt that never knew he was the runt. This fearless stunning little creature managed to fly under the radar until his family came along, and then all bets were off. It was love at first sight in both directions. This is what we live for. 💕 * * * He is half the size of his brothers, and they are only 4 pounds. Dewy can walk under them without touching. His legs are impossibly short, even for his teeny stature. He’s basically the tiniest little creature you’ll ever see. His heart is massive though; he’s brave, adventurous, tough and he punches above his weight. Dewy is a crowd favorite to say the least.

Would you like to adopt a teeny tiny terrier mix with a heart of solid gold? Macie will probably grow to 7 or 8 pounds maximum, possible just 5 pounds. She’s super cuddly, playful and eager to please. Macie was an owner surrender, along with her brother Irish, at a crowded Bakersfield shelter. She gets along well with other dogs and all humans.
